Tape of North Olmsted forward's killer crossover and high-flying dunk goes viral to ESPN and brings athlete loads of attention.
Andy Lucien knew it was a good dunk. But he didn't realize just how good until he saw it on tape, along with millions of other red-blooded sports fans.
The talented 6-foot-6, 185-pound junior from
North Olmsted (Ohio) earned the top play on ESPN's Top 10 segment Sunday for his killer crossover and high-flying slam dunk against Westlake on Friday.
"I never thought I would be watching myself on ‘SportsCenter,'" Lucien told
Chronicle-Telegram sports writer Todd Shapiro. "It's like a childhood dream. I was sitting in my basement last night watching it. I could not believe I was sitting there watching myself on ‘SportsCenter.'"
Lucien didn't hear that the dunk went viral until a coach told him Monday at practice.
Lucien isn't just a pretty dunker. At the Best of the Best combine in Cleveland in October, Lucien was the surprise find of the event and immediately elevated to a mid-major college prospect. He's averaging more than 16 points and close to 10 rebounds a game.
Slam magazine's Rodger Bohn said of Lucien: "He's 6-6, can hit the open 3, is a legit athlete (dunks every time in transition) and finishes in traffic."
Wrote Cleveland-area skills trainer Dan Urban: "He's bouncy, long, has good handles, above-average shot and nice range. Keep an ear open for him."
After this dunk, all eyes are on him.
