Preview: Elk Grove Thundering Herd vs. Franklin Wildcats
Two dominant players in Vinny Gonzales and Aiden Rollins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Franklin Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Elk Grove will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 536th, while Franklin is ranked 73rd).
Elk Grove managed to keep up with Jesuit until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Elk Grove ended up on the wrong side of a tough 69-47 walloping at the hands of Jesuit. Elk Grove just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Elk Grove's loss came about despite a quality game from MJ Bhatia, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Gonzales, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Franklin's game on Wednesday was all tied up 30-30 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They took down Davis Sr. 62-48.
Elk Grove's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12. As for Franklin, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
Elk Grove came up short against Franklin in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 51-44. Can Elk Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
