Basketball Recap: Kellis Falls Despite Big Games from Zion Woods and Gak Kueth

After a string of four wins, Kellis's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 61-48 to the West Point Dragons. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Dragons are ranked 23rd).

Kellis' loss came despite strong showings from Gak Kueth and Zion Woods. Kueth posted ten points and six rebounds, while Woods had 14 points and three steals. Woods has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Quincee Wilson was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Kellis' loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for West Point, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.

Kellis will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Copper Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Copper Canyon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Kellis likes a good challenge. West Point also won't see the court for a while: their next matchup is against Red Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
