Football Recap: Broughton Skates Past Corinth Holders with Ease

There's no place like home for Broughton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Corinth Holders Pirates 38-0. That 38 point margin sets a new team best for the Capitals this season.

Broughton was led to victory by Barack Okeyo and Xavier Howard. Okeyo rushed for 153 yards and two TDs on only eight carries, while Howard gained 125 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Okeyo a new career-high in receiving yards (21).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Broughton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 237 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Broughton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Rives Smith. Broughton got some further help from Henry Bull: he picked up two sacks and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Broughton now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Corinth Holders, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Coming up, Broughton will venture away from home to take on Rolesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Corinth Holders, they will welcome Wakefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will be up against the Wolverines' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
