Recap: McQuaid Jesuit Knights vs. Aquinas Institute Little Irish
The McQuaid Jesuit Knights put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Aquinas Institute with a sharp 35-14 win. The result was nothing new for McQuaid Jesuit, who have now won six matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Aquinas Institute saw an underclassman step up: Trent Buttles rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 169 yards and a touchdown.
McQuaid Jesuit's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Edison Tech/School of the Arts/Northeast/Northwest College Prep/School Without Walls and 1-9 Rush-Henrietta (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.4% over those games). As for Aquinas Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
McQuaid Jesuit will play host again and welcome University Prep, where kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New York (University Prep is ranked 34th, while McQuaid Jesuit is ranked 25th). Aquinas Institute does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
