Softball Recap: Liberty-Benton Drops Season-High Score on Rossford

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty-Benton). They were the clear victors by a 25-7 margin over the Rossford Bulldogs on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.

Reagan Knapke made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Hayden Gillig was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with seven RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Sydney Ruetz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Liberty-Benton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Liberty-Benton's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-4. As for Rossford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Liberty-Benton and Rossford could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 207th) will meet Lake (ranked 22nd) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Rossford will take on Eastwood at 4:45 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (356 vs. 35).
