Baseball Recap: Rickover Naval Comes Up Short

Rickover Naval extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-10. They lost 25-11 to the Chicago Academy Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-6 on Tuesday.

As for Chicago Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-5. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Chicago Academy's part, Isaiah Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gonzalez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jadiel Luciano was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Chicago Academy: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Angel Lucas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Rickover Naval does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chicago Academy, they will square off against Noble Street College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
