Baseball Game Preview: Lancaster Catholic Crusaders vs. Wyomissing Spartans

The Lancaster Catholic Crusaders will challenge the Wyomissing Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lancaster Catholic has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Wyomissing will arrive with four straight victories.

Monday just wasn't the day for Lancaster Catholic's offense. They fell just short of Columbia by a score of 2-0 on Monday. Considering the last time the Crusaders couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Drew Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Lancaster Catholic's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Wyomissing ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against Berks Catholic by a score of 5-2. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Saints on their field since May 10, 2021.

The team relied heavily on Derek Macrina, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Wyomissing pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Lancaster Catholic, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
