Chillicothe is 2-8 against Savannah since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hornets will face off against the Savages at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Chillicothe's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Lafayette to the tune of 35-0. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Fighting Irish: they've now won four in a row.
One reason for the win was Chillicothe's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Henry Hurtgen, Tyler Lehmann, and Jaishon White, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chillicothe received some extra help from White, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Savannah against Cameron on Friday as the team secured a 47-6 win. The Savages might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 28 points or more this season.
Savannah's win came from a few key players Chillicothe will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aiden Knechtenhofer, who rushed for 26 yards and two TDs. Savannah also got a significant boost from Makhi King, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Savannah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 226 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Savannah's record now sits at 6-0. As for Chillicothe, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Chillicothe has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Savannah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 318.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Chillicothe was dealt a bruising 49-6 defeat at the hands of Savannah in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
