Baseball Recap: New Richmond Comes Up Short

New Richmond had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-12 to make it four. They lost 13-7 to the Western Brown Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in April.

Hunter Ashley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Trey Davis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Western Brown, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Western Brown's side, Braylen Fletcher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. Fletcher also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Broncos are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Carter Saylor was incredible, getting on base in six of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Western Brown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was William Stewart, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Richmond will welcome Wyoming at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Western Brown, they will be playing at home against Beechwood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Broncos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
