Baseball Game Preview: West Field Longhorns vs. Logan Grizzlies

The West Field Longhorns will square off against the Logan Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Field is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

West Field is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Mountain Crest just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 18-16. On the bright side, the 16- run effort marked the Longhorns' highest-scoring match to date.

West Field saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Penland, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Penland has become a key player for the Longhorns: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another was Luke Penland, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Logan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against Green Canyon on Monday as they made off with a 7-1 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kyler Briel and Josh Jensen made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Briel tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Jensen didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Briel went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Jensen went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Jensen's first of the season.

West Field's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Logan, they moved to 5-14 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
