Football Recap: Tooele Takes a Loss

Tooele and Skyline squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Tooele had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Eagles, falling 53-22. The Buffaloes just can't catch a break and have now endured seven defeats in a row.

Tooele's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gus Pater, who threw for 259 yards and three TDs, and Mavrik Chlarson, who picked up 157 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chlarson showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 60 yards. Tooele also got help from Erick Rojas, who showed off his sure hands for 97 receiving yards.

Xavier Cocci had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 276 yards and three TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 56 yards and a pair of scores for Skyline. The dominant performance also gave Cocci a new career-high in passer rating (163.2). Another player making a difference was Jonah Mailei, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.

Tooele's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Skyline, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Tooele does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Skyline, they will challenge Pine View at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.78 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
