Softball Recap: Liberty Takes Down Timberline in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Liberty had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Timberline Blazers by a score of 11-6. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Avery Huh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Berlyn Crockett was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Isabella Rockey, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timberline only posted an OBP of .233.

Liberty's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Timberline, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-6.

Looking ahead, Liberty will square off against Enumclaw at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their 21st straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Timberline, they will take on Hermiston at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blazers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
