Basketball Recap: Westbury Falls Despite Big Games from Mayowa Olatoto and Nicholas Homer

Westbury lost against Spring Woods back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Westbury Huskies lost 68-48 to the Spring Woods Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1084th, while the Tigers are ranked 471st).

Westbury's loss came despite strong showings from Nicholas Homer and Mayowa Olatoto. Homer posted 12 points, while Olatoto put up six points.

Spring Woods' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tavionn Pickens led the charge by going 10 of 14 en route to 23 points along with seven boards and four steals. Pickens' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Trae Pickens was another key player, going 9 for 10 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds.

Westbury has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points per game. As for Spring Woods, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-7.

Westbury wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-42 loss against Waltrip on the 25th. Spring Woods has also already played their next game, a 58-50 victory against Austin on the 24th.
