Recap: Marshall Mavericks vs. Tyler Lions
The Marshall Mavericks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Tyler, falling 85-50. Marshall has struggled against the Lions recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Marshall had strong showings from Alyssa Helton, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds, and Calleigh Johnson, who scored nine points along with eight assists and six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Johnson posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Jakairi Blacknell, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-21 record this season. As for Tyler, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 26-9.
Marshall will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Hallsville is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Tyler, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Whitehouse is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
