Basketball Recap: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers
Even though the Robert C. Byrd Eagles have not done well against the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Robert C. Byrd strolled past the Buccaneers with points to spare, taking the game 44-27. The win made it back-to-back wins for Robert C. Byrd.
Leading Robert C. Byrd to victory were Martina Howe and Carleigh Curotz. Howe scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Curotz scored 21 points along with two blocks. Curotz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
When it comes to explaining why Buckhannon-Upshur lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyssa Abel. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyndal Davis, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Robert C. Byrd's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Robert C. Byrd will head out on the road to square off against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lincoln focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Colts at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Philip Barbour focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday.
