Volleyball Game Preview: Oberlin Phoenix vs. Waynedale Golden Bears

After both having extra time off, the Oberlin Phoenix and the Waynedale Golden Bears will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Oberlin lost 3-0 to Black River on Thursday. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Oberlin took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-21.

Meanwhile, Waynedale didn't have quite enough to beat Smithville on Thursday and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their meetings with the Smithies: they've now lost five in a row.

Waynedale actually scored more points across those five sets (106-105), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 25-19, 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 17-15.

Oberlin will have to contain Kylie Geiser as she made an impact in Waynedale's last game. She had 37 digs. Geiser is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Spitler, who had 18 digs and one assist.

Oberlin's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Waynedale, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.
