Basketball Preview: Sumner Academy Sabres vs. Notre Dame de Sion Storm
The Sumner Academy Sabres will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Notre Dame de Sion Storm at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Notre Dame de Sion took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Sumner Academy, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Sumner Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over the Phoenix, taking the game 33-25.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Notre Dame de Sion's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 40-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blue Valley Northwest. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Notre Dame de Sion in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now lost three in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Emerson Shelton, who scored 11 points along with three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abby Wendte, who scored 13 points.
The victory got Sumner Academy back to even at 6-6. As for Notre Dame de Sion, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Sumner Academy came up short against the Storm when the teams last played back in January of 2018, falling 54-50. Can Sumner Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
