Softball Game Preview: Dawson-Bryant Hornets vs. Portsmouth West Senators

The Dawson-Bryant Hornets will face off against the Portsmouth West Senators at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dawson-Bryant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Dawson-Bryant is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Peebles get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

The result came thanks to Abbie Deeds's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Izzy Kitts was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth West entered their tilt with Fairfield on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Lions.

The team relied heavily on Lainey Cook, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Maleah Whitman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Dawson-Bryant pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Portsmouth West, they now have a winning record of 14-13.

Dawson-Bryant suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Portsmouth West in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
