Softball Recap: Shallowater Snaps 15-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Shallowater dropped their record down to 17-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the River Road Wildcats. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 9-7 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in February of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Gracie Banks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skylar Stephenson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

As for River Road, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games.

On River Road's side, Carol Koval was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Koval was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Angie Rivas was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Ava Sharp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

While Shallowater had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
