Football Recap: Southern Valley Comes Up Short

Southern Valley lost against Sutton back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eagles had to suffer through a 70-28 loss at the hands of the Mustangs.

When it comes to explaining why Southern Valley lost, don't look at Avery Thiessen. Despite the final result, he picked up 55 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 49 yards and one score. Thiessen was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 55 yards. Hayden Lans was another key player, gaining 44 total yards and two touchdowns.

Connor Hinrichs was nothing short of spectacular for Sutton: he rushed for 223 yards and five touchdowns on only 11 carries. Hinrichs is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 160 every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Creighton Jones, who rushed for 77 yards and one score.

Southern Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Sutton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Southern Valley and Sutton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Eagles will take on rival Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Sutton is set to square off against their familiar foe Thayer Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
