Volleyball Recap: Union Falls Short Against Ranked Newton County

Union faced Newton County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Yellowjackets fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Union sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 23-25, 15-10.

Destiny Moulds paced Union's offense, picking up nine kills. Moulds got some help from Abigail Cleveland and her 18 assists. Posey Edmondson controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Leading Newton County to victory were Kolbie Wansley and Reese Thoms. Wansley had 11 digs and two assists, while Thoms had 12 digs. That's the most digs Thoms has posted over her last seven contests.

Union's defeat dropped their record down to 26-10. As for Newton County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 30-5.

Union didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against St. Andrew's Episcopal on the 30th. As for Newton County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Lake on the 30th.
