Baseball Recap: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Takes a Loss

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-10 to make it five. They fell 4-1 to the Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on April 2nd.

Sehaj Malhi was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Malhi was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Malhi wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ben Bubar, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.

On Scottsdale Christian Academy's side, Dylan Tims spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. Tims has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.

Coming up, Scottsdale Preparatory Academy will venture away from home to take on Fountain Hills at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, they will square off against Glendale Prep Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Griffins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
