Basketball Recap: Jaydra Cordova's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sangre De Cristo over Trinidad

After soaring to 66 points the game before, Sangre de Cristo was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against the Trinidad Miners, falling 47-24. The Thunderbirds were down 47-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Sangre de Cristo's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaydra Cordova, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Haylee Freel, who put up seven points.

Trinidad found their leader in sophomore Maya Morales, who en route to 15 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Morales is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Shipley, who scored 15 points and four steals.

Sangre de Cristo has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for Trinidad and bumps their season record up to 11-8.

Coming up, Sangre de Cristo will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Moffat at 5:00 p.m. Trinidad does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
