Softball Recap: Chadwick Dolphins vs. Polytechnic Panthers

Chadwick extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They came up short against the Polytechnic Panthers, falling 13-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in April.

Sammy Santa Ana was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Riley Chen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

As for Polytechnic, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-8. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Like Chadwick, Polytechnic also got a great game from a two-way player: Amelia Shih. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off 14 hits (and not a single walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave Shih a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Eila Chan was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Kate Asperger was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Chadwick will welcome Lennox Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Polytechnic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
