Baseball Recap: Goliad Finds Playoff Glory Versus Columbus

With a playoff win on the line, Goliad rose to the challenge on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Columbus Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Cy Henke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Henke was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, Kayden Caka was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Ty Marek was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Goliad is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Columbus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-14-1.

Coming up, Goliad will challenge Hondo on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.3, the Owls 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Columbus does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
