Basketball Recap: Creede Drops Season-High Score on Moffat

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Creede). They breezed by the Moffat Cowboys to the tune of 59-30 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Miners have posted against the Cowboys since February 24, 2021.

Creede got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaxson Fazio out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Fazio has scored at least a third of Creede's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Fairchild, who went 6 of 15 en route to 21 points in addition to seven steals and three blocks.

Creede was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moffat only posted four assists.

Despite the defeat, Moffat saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chase Shellabarger almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Shellabarger.

Creede moved to 5-9 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Moffat, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Creede will take on Sangre de Cristo at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Moffat, they will face off against Sierra Grande at 6:30 p.m. on February 1st.
