Softball Recap: Fremont Takes a Loss

Fremont extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-5 in the process. They lost 15-9 to the Garrett Railroaders. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Railroaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Lexi Stevens was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Chloe Verdin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs.

As for Garrett, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Garrett's side, Ashlee Vanderbosch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Vanderbosch has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Peyton Grindstaff was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayiden Feicht, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Fremont has already played their next contest, a 5-2 victory against Angola on the 1st. As for Garrett, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-6 defeat against Fairfield on the 29th.
