Softball Game Preview: Brazos Cougars vs. Boling Bulldogs

Brazos and Boling are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Cougars will square off against the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brazos will be strutting in after a victory while Boling will be coming in after a loss.

Brazos took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Hitchcock get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Ava Aguilar's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Kendall Macha was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Abigail Danford also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Boling was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against East Bernard, falling 15-0.

Brazos pushed their record up to 7-15-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Boling, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Everything went Brazos' way against Boling when the teams last played back in March, as Brazos made off with a 10-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
