Football Game Preview: South Allegheny Gladiators vs. Ligonier Valley Rams

The South Allegheny Gladiators will challenge the Ligonier Valley Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Allegheny has five straight victories, Ligonier Valley has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

South Allegheny is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past South Park 56-7 on Friday. With the Gladiators ahead 42-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Joey Gamret continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 139 yards and four scores. Those 139 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew Cook, who gained 72 total yards and three touchdowns.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Cook, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Ligonier Valley had to suffer through a 40-6 loss at the hands of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.

Despite the defeat, Ligonier Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Greyson Daugherty picked up 103 receiving yards and one touchdown. Daugherty showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 65 yards.

Ligonier Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for South Allegheny, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything went South Allegheny's way against Ligonier Valley when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as South Allegheny made off with a 49-28 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Rams' John Jablunovsky, who rushed for 93 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries.
