Softball Game Preview: Appomattox County Raiders vs. Glenvar Highlanders

The Appomattox County Raiders will face off against the Glenvar Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Appomattox County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 12 games.

Appomattox County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Gretna an 11-0 shutout. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Bailey Hamilton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. MaKenzie Elliott was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Appomattox County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .435 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Glenvar, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against James River by a score of 9-4 on Thursday. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Appomattox County pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Glenvar, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.

Appomattox County came out on top in a nail-biter against Glenvar in their previous matchup back in June of 2021, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
