Softball Recap: Alliance Aviators vs. Minerva Lions

Alliance fell victim to Minerva and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Minerva Lions. Alliance has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alana Minear spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.

Even though they lost, Alliance didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 12 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Minerva only tossed three.

On Minerva's side, the result came thanks to Sierra Cress's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. Cress has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Kashdan, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Delaney Sell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Alliance's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Minerva, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Alliance will head out on the road to face off against Marlington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marlington is coming into the matchup with seven straight victories at home, so Alliance will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Minerva will take on Carrollton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
