Basketball Game Preview: Everglades City Gators vs. Donahue Catholic Shamrocks

The Everglades City Gators will face off against the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Everglades City will be strutting in after a win while Donahue Catholic will be coming in after a loss.

Donahue Catholic is hoping to do what Marco Island Academy couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Everglades City's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Everglades City enjoyed a cozy 46-28 victory over Marco Island Academy.

Gena Collins was a one-woman wrecking crew for Everglades City as she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 20 boards. With that strong performance, Collins is now averaging an impressive 9.5 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Jayde Freeman, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Everglades City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Donahue Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Archbishop McCarthy on Saturday and fell 51-48.

Everglades City pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.0 points per game. As for Donahue Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
