Football Recap: La Marque Finds Playoff Glory Versus Hamshire-Fannett

With a playoff win on the line, La Marque rose to the challenge on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 35-32. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 49-13 victory the Longhorns walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

La Marque's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cory Hosea, who rushed for 174 yards and one score while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Hosea's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 142 rushing yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Deuce Walker, who threw for 222 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Marque was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Hamshire-Fannett saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dwayne Long picked up 104 receiving yards and one TD.

La Marque is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points over those games. As for Hamshire-Fannett, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Looking ahead, La Marque will take on China Spring at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Hosea and CHRISHON GREGORY. Hamshire-Fannett does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
