Basketball Recap: Shannon Takes a Loss

After flying high against Ripley last Tuesday, Shannon came back down to earth. The Shannon Red Raiders were beaten by the Oxford Chargers 62-26 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Red Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Chargers are ranked 34th).

Shannon's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Oxford, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shannon will venture away from home to square off against Calhoun City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oxford, they will face off against Hernando at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hernando knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Oxford likes a good challenge.
