Baseball Recap: Excel Christian Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Excel Christian won the last time they faced Virginia City and things went their way on Thursday too. The Warriors put the hurt on the Muckers with a sharp 9-3 win. Considering the Warriors have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Tommy Schoech made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Excel Christian is undefeated when Schoech posts two or more runs, but 1-3-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Luc Mandes and Grayson King did most of the damage at the plate: Mandes went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while King went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave King a new career-high.

Excel Christian pushed their record up to 10-3-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Virginia City, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Excel Christian will host Smith Valley at 10:00 a.m. on the 26th. As for Virginia City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mineral County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Serpents will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Muckers surely won't give up without a fight.
