Basketball Game Preview: Conifer Lobos vs. Mountain Vista Golden Eagles

The Conifer Lobos will head out to square off against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

Conifer is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Village just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 47-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountaineers. The match marked the Lobos' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Vista). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Fort Collins 88-39. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Lambkins are ranked 185th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Conifer better focus on containing Cal Baskind and Oliver Junker as the pair were huge in Mountain Vista's win. Baskind went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points along with five assists and three steals, while Junker dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Junker's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Matchem Iii, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points.

Conifer's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Mountain Vista, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
