Baseball Recap: Cardinal Stritch's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Mary Central Catholic, Cardinal Stritch was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bowsher Rebels. The win was some much needed relief for the Cardinals as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Simon Ross made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Cardinal Stritch: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Rosales, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Cardinal Stritch is 4-1 when Rosales posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-8 otherwise. David Crook was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Cardinal Stritch's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Bowsher, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Cardinal Stritch will head out to challenge Hilltop at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cadets have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Bowsher, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rogers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
