Recap: Valley Rams vs. Callaway Cavaliers
The Valley Rams came tearing into Thursday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Callaway with points to spare, taking the game 78-61. Given Valley's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 23rd in Alabama, while Callaway is ranked 284th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 20 rebounds. Thomas hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Cam?ron Dooley, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 rebounds.
Callaway's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DeShun Coleman, who scored 19 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrus Edwards, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Valley pushed their record up to 19-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.8 points per game. As for Callaway, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.
Valley will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Tallassee at 6:00 p.m. Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matchups -- so hopefully Tallassee likes a good challenge. As for Callaway, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Columbia has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
