Baseball Recap: Brown County Comes Up Short

Brown County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-13 in the process. They fell 8-3 to the Edinburgh Lancers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 14-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Jade Woolems made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double. Mason Hazelgrove also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Edinburgh, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-13. The matchup marked their most dominant win of the season.

On Edinburgh's side, Ayden Swallows spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Milas Burkman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braiden Dewey, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brown County will head out to square off against Greencastle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Edinburgh, they will venture away from home to challenge Columbus Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
