Football Game Preview: Independence Mustangs vs. Charles City Comets

Independence has gone a perfect 3-0 against Charles City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Comets at 7:00 p.m. Independence will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Independence's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Iowa Falls-Alden 35-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 33 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Charles City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against Clear Lake, falling 63-0. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa football rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Lions are ranked sixth).

With the win, Independence broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-3. As for Charles City, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything came up roses for Independence against Charles City in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, as the team secured a 47-7 victory. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
