Baseball Recap: Doral Academy Has No Trouble Against Keys Gate

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Doral Academy). Everything went their way against the Keys Gate Knights on Friday as the Doral Academy Firebirds made off with a 13-6 victory. With that win, the Firebirds brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Matthew Paez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

At the plate, Leandro Hernandez and Caleb Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Leandro scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2, while Caleb scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Leandro also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was George Pardo Jr., who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Doral Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Doral Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Keys Gate, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Doral Academy and Keys Gate's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Doral Academy will challenge Belen Jesuit at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a team that's only allowed 2.25 runs per game. Similarly, Keys Gate and Westminster Christian (who has only given up three runs per game) will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
