Baseball Recap: Chaffey Takes a Loss

Chaffey had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it six. They fell just short of the Ontario Jaguars by a score of 3-1. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Ontario, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Ontario's part, their win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Modesto Verdin, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Those two hits gave Verdin a new career-high.

While Chaffey had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
