Baseball Recap: Eureka Victorious

While Eureka's victory against Arcata wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Loggers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Tigers 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Loggers have posted since March 25th.

Eureka got a great performance from Kyle Johnston as he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The Loggers are 2-1 when Johnston allows three or fewer earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Ty Crawford was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Eureka is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Arcata, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eureka will head out to take on McKinleyville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Loggers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Arcata, they will challenge Fortuna at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
