Baseball Recap: Canutillo Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Canutillo Eagles came up short against the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks and fell 7-4.

Aaron Cordero was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Paul Zuniga was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Canutillo's loss dropped their record down to 7-3-1. As for Ironwood Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canutillo will welcome Del Valle at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ironwood Ridge, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Buena at 4:00 p.m.
