Papillion-LaVista has gone 7-1 against Omaha South recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Monarchs will take on the Packers in a tournament on Thursday. Papillion-LaVista is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
If Papillion-LaVista beats Omaha South with 11 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Monarchs put the hurt on Bryan with a sharp 11-1 win on Monday.
Cayden Miller spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Papillion-LaVista got a big performance out of Jaxson Povich, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Povich a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Tiefenthaler, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Omaha South's offense. They came up short against Millard South on Monday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Packers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Papillion-LaVista's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Omaha South, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Papillion-LaVista has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Omaha South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Papillion-LaVista's way against Omaha South in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Papillion-LaVista made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Monarchs repeat their success, or do the Packers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
