Basketball Recap: Churchill County Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Fernley came into Wednesday's match looking for another win against Churchill County, but Karlie J. Simper wouldn't allow it. The Churchill County Greenwave snuck past the Fernley Vaqueros with a 53-48 victory on Wednesday thanks in part to Simper, who went 6 for 11 en route to 18 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024.

Fernley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Tollestrup, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Tollestrup is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Justice Martell Artiaga, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points and seven boards.

The win made it two in a row for Churchill County and bumps their season record up to 13-6. As for Fernley, they moved to 14-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
