Volleyball Recap: Gilmour Academy Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Anthony Wayne, Gilmour Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They skirted past the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted since August 28th.

Gilmour Academy took St. Joseph Academy into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-17, 14-25, 25-15, 15-12.

Gilmour Academy found their leader in freshman Avery Martin, who had 17 digs and two assists. Martin is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last six games she's played.

St. Joseph Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Milani Marrero, who had 15 digs and five aces, and Jazlene 'Jazzy' Ocasio, who had 11 digs and four aces.

Gilmour Academy now has a winning record of 9-8. As for St. Joseph Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Gilmour Academy will host North Allegheny at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will challenge Pine-Richland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rams will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Jaguars surely won't give up without a fight.
