Football Game Preview: Lowellville Rockets vs. McDonald Blue Devils

The Lowellville Rockets will face off against the McDonald Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lowellville has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while McDonald will arrive with six straight wins.

Lowellville had taken Mineral Ridge down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Rockets were outmatched by the Rams and fell 48-16. The Rockets were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Meanwhile, McDonald really took it to Waterloo for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-14 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 28 points or more this season.

McDonald's win came from a few key players Lowellville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Drew Zajack, who rushed for 116 yards and one score on only seven carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Mason Marvin was another key player, throwing for 193 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes.

McDonald was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waterloo only rushed for 99.

McDonald's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Lowellville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Lowellville strolled past McDonald in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 34-20. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
