Basketball Recap: Santa Maria Snaps 12-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Maria). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 victory over the Kaufer Seahawks on Tuesday. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 48-21 win the Seahawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Kaufer lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sienna Colin, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Montalvo, who scored eight points.

Santa Maria's victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-8. As for Kaufer, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Santa Maria will square off against Agua Dulce at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Agua Dulce's defense has only allowed 25.7 points per game this season, so Santa Maria's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Kaufer, they will take on Ben Bolt at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Kaufer is facing Ben Bolt at the right time seeing as Ben Bolt is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
